Stamford is much more than home to Fortune 500
companies. It is a city filled with eclectic eateries, great shopping, myriad
recreational opportunities and unique antique shops, including one of
America's largest antique markets. With more than 70 restaurants and
clubs downtown, you can choose menus from the world over and
dine indoors or al fresco. With this much variety, you will always find a
new favorite place to eat. As the regional destination for arts and entertainment,
Stamford offers a wealth of cultural riches. Downtown is the home of The Stamford
Center for the Arts. The renovated Palace Theatre originally opened its doors in 1937
as a vaudeville house. Today it features headliners like Roberta Flack, Foreigner, Willie
Nelson and major off-Broadway musicals like STOMP. The Stamford Symphony and the
Connecticut Grand Opera also call The Palace their home. If movies are your thing,
the City has two 1st run theaters with 15 screens between them and the Avon Theater,
a restored, independent film house. There is also a local branch of New York City's
Whitney Museum with its ever-changing exhibits.
